Why would you want to? Annuities are set as some of the worst investments around. They have big fees and long holding periods. The just reason they are sold is that the party selling it receives a huge commission. Find a upright no load, low levy mutual fund instead. You'll be much happier.
Answers: If the annuity is a qualified side, then you probably can - unless the insurance company restricts it.
A better leeway (in my opinion) would be to roll it to an IRA and buy mutual funds. The are generally 1/2 the costs of annuities.
